Introduction : Òyou Want 1389 ? We Can Do That !ó --the Geopolitics of Everyday Technics

The post 9/11 Western World has been heavily marked by a near nearparanoid emphasis on the catastrophic threats posed by so-called cyber terrorism. Such cyber terror attacks, however, have, so far, been noticeable by their absence. At the same time a much more hidden, but increasingly pervasive form of forced demodernisation state infrastructural warfare is emerging as a central component of contemporary military strategy. In such a context, this paper seeks to explore the strategies, doctrines, techniques and discourses which surround the conjunction of informal cyber-terror against advanced industrial nation-states, and the state-backed infrastructural warfare practised by them. It does this in four parts. The first three, in turn, place forced demodernisation via infrastructural warfare within a theoretical perspective ; explore the largely chimeric anxiety provoked in the advanced industrial world (and especially the United States) by the purported threats of orchestrated cyber-terror ; analyse a range of case studies of US state-backed infrastructural warfare (including the 1999 Kosovo intervention, the experience of war, sanctions, and more war in Iraq since 1991, and the current development of a national United States computer networked attack capability). Finally, in the papers conclusion, I reflect upon the geopolitics of forced disconnection, and demodernisation, within contemporary war and strategy. Introduction : ÒYou Want 1389 ?
